Translation memories (TMs) are the heart of SDL Trados Studio. They work by reusing previously translated content to allow translators to complete projects more quickly while maintaining the same high quality.

Translation Memory (TM) is a database of your approved translated content against which new files received for translation are automatically scanned for matches, so you never have to translate the same sentence twice. Trados Studio’s flexible TM features, including fuzzy and fragment matches, mean you don’t need a 100% match to get reliable suggestions for approval or editing. We can use TMs provided by our clients or create new TMs, we don’t have to start from scratch, as Trados Studio can convert any previously translated content into a TMs. Leverage all your translation assets in the Trados Studio editor.
Terminology database (termbase) – a significant step up from a simple glossary – houses multilingual terms along with reference notes and usage rules. Trados Studio automatically highlights any recognised terms in the editor so that our translators can ensure they are translated correctly. We can create any number of termbases specific to our client’s business, even differentiating between business units within the same company.
Machine translation (MT) helps you save time by automatically suggesting translations for all the segments that don’t have a TM match. As with TM matches, you can still edit these if necessary.
Trados Studio gives us direct access to more than 50 third-party MT services.
Generative translation can supercharge your productivity by using the linguistic fluency of a large language model (LLM) and its ability to be guided by prompts. Delivered through Studio’s AI Assistant, you can use an LLM for initial translation, either as a batch task during pretranslation or interactively in the editor; you can prompt the LLM to modify any translation, for example by asking it to alter the tone or address gender bias; and you can direct the LLM to use your termbase while translating or modifying a translation.
